Set Up Items and Item Categories
Inventory items have the following characteristics:
A greater degree of precision when tracking specific items.
If you maintain an in-house inventory, quantities on hand.
Vendor items numbers.
Preferred vendors.
Specific pricing.
Items can be organized by item categories. Also, categories can be applied as security filters so that users can only view the items that they are permitted to see.

Set up requisition management related fields on the item card
If you are using inventory and items, set up the following fields on the Item Card page, on the Item FastTab:
Item Category Code
Purchaser Code
Details
If you are using inventory and items, set up on the Item Card page, on the Inventory FastTab, Commitment G/L Account.
