Batch post output and run times

The output quantity represents the work progress in the form of the finished quantity and used capacity of the work or machine center.

You can use an output journal to:

    • Adjust inventory with the output of finished items from production.
    • Register quantities and scrap for each operation in a production routing.
    • Register setup and run time for work and machine centers.
    Note

    Note:
If you use a production routing, inventory is updated only when you post output quantity for the last operation.

The Production Journal page lets you do the same tasks as the Output Journal page, and also do consumption posting tasks. To learn more, go to Register Consumption and Output for a Released Production Order Line.

To post output quantities and/or register run times for one or more production order lines

    1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter Output Journal, and then choose the related link.

    2. Fill in the fields with the production order data and the output data and/or run time. Hover over a field to read a short description.

You can use the Explode Routing function to generate journal lines from production orders.

    3. If the operation is complete, select the Finished field.

    4. Choose the Post action to post the operations.

Capacity ledger entries are updated for the used work or machine centers with information about time and quantity of output and scrap. If you posted the last operation, the item is added to inventory.

Use Edit in Excel on output, consumption, and item journals

One reason the Edit in Excel feature in is so popular is that it provides a fast way to enter data. For example, you can use templates for journals, quickly do bulk edits, and so on. You can use the feature to speed up data entry on item journals to include item tracking details such as lot, serial, package number, warranty, and expiration dates. You can also edit item tracking details in consumption and output journals.

To let users enter serial, lot, and package data directly on journal lines, you must enable the capability on item journal batches. To set that up, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Item Journal Templates page.
    2. Select a template of the type Item, Consumption or Output.
    3. Choose the Batches action to open a list of item journal batches.
    4. Choose New to create a new batch, and then turn on the Item Tracking on Lines toggle.

Repeat these steps for all templates for which you want to use the capability.

After you set the feature up, you can start using it right away.

    1. Depending on what you want to do, open the Item Journals, Consumption Journals, or Output Journals pages.
    2. In the Batch Name field, select the batch for which you enabled the Item Tracking on Lines toggle.
    3. Choose the Edit in Excel action.
    4. In Excel, you can now fill in columns, including Serial No., Lot No., Package No., Expiration Date, and Warranty Date.
    5. When you're done, choose Publish to send changes to Business Central.
