Sales credit memos
To reverse a completed customer transaction, you can create a sales credit memo. The following are some reasons why sales credit memos are created:
An error in invoicing, such as the wrong item, wrong customer, incorrect price, or incorrect quantity.
Faulty goods are received, such as goods with production flaws, goods that are damaged, or somehow the purpose for which the goods are meant is not fulfilled.
The order was canceled, but the invoice process was completed.
Sales credit memos allow a sound accounting method to reverse an invoice transaction that was posted with some erroneous information.
To create a sales credit memo
Choose , enter sales credit memos, and then choose the related link.
The Sales Credit Memos page opens.
On the action bar, choose New.
The Sales Credit Memo page opens.
The Sales Credit Memo has the same characteristics as a sales order or sales invoice.
The General FastTab information is the company information and comes from the customer card.
The Lines FastTab includes the sales credit memo details.
In Customer Name, specify the customer to which this sales credit memo applies.
To copy the general information and lines from a posted sales invoice to the sales credit memo, on the action bar, choose Prepare > Copy Document.
The Copy Sales Document page opens.
In Document Type, specify Posted Invoice.
In Document No., to view a list of the posted invoices, choose .
The Posted Sales Invoices page opens.
Select the posted sales invoice that is to be copied to this sales credit memo, and then choose OK.
Turn on Include Header.
Ensure that Recalculate Lines is turned off.
To copy the posted sales invoice to a credit memo, choose OK.
The Sales Credit Memo page is filled in with all of the information from the posted sales invoice and a link is created to the original document.
To post a sales credit memo
Choose , enter sales credit memos, and then choose the related link.
The Sales Credit Memos page opens.
Select the sales credit memo that you want to post, and then on the action bar, choose Posting > Post or Post and Send.
A dialog box appears.
To confirm that you want the credit memo to be posted, choose Yes.
To view a credit memo that has been posted
Choose , enter posted sales credit memos, and then choose the related link.
The Posted Sales Credit Memos page opens.
Select the posted sales credit memo that you want to view, and then on the action bar, choose Manage > View.
The Posted Sales Credit Memo page opens.
To view sales credit memo statistics, on the action bar, choose Credit Memo > Statistics.
